Hyundai’s efforts to become a rival for German carmakers started in 2007 when the Genesis luxury sedan was launched as a concept at the New York Audo Show. A year after that, the car became a production reality, assembled at their Ulsan, South Korea, factory.
A number of changes were made over the years, most notably to the the 2012 model year, when engine choices came to include 3.8 Lambda GDi, 4.6 Tau MPi (390PS) and the 5.0 Tau GDi for R-Spec.
Hyundai has even developed its own 8-speed automatic gearbox with SHIFTRONIC manual mode, a respectable undertaking for such a young company.
But, that’s all she wrote for this generation, as a replacement has been spotted testing in Germany. According to a statement made by Hyundai Motor Company CEO Kim Choon-ho, it will launch towards the end of 2013, and should come with a host of new features.
Updates to the 3.8-liter and 5.0-liter engines will reportedly be made, though a turbocharged V6 might also be offered.
