Unimog has been making hardy off-road trucks since the 1940s and have acquired vast experience in the field. They now make a range of three vehicles, with the U20 being the smallest of the lot.
Acknowledging the Unimog’s awesome capabilities, the fire brigade from teh Swiss canton of Ticino have just taken delivery of 15 U20s specially modified for the job by Rosenbaure, being capable of carrying 6,000 liters of water at speeds of up to 90 km/h (56 mph), thanks to their 177 hp / 610 Nm (449 lb-ft) four-cylinder turbodiesel engines. Also, to give you an idea of just how serious a pice of kit this is, it has eight forward gears and six reverse gears, so it is extremely unlikely to ever get stuck - it is the truck you call when you get stuck somewhere in your car and need to get out.

Another benefit of using a U20 is its extremely small turning circles of 12.6 m, as well as its small size, which enable it to reach even the most remote of emergencies and use its 2,000 l/min pump to extinguish any fire, no matter how large.
