It’s been quite some time since the last Suzuki SV1000 rolled off the production line, but this does not mean that the bike is dead. Even more, bike designers such as Luca Bar are eying a possible comeback of this nifty machine, now that the V-Strom 1000 is already in stores.
In fact Luca Bar had the V-Strom 1000 as the starting point for the SV1000 he imagined. Given the fact that the lump powering Suzuki’s adventure bike is not at all “pushed”, some minor electronic upgrades could easily have it delivering extra power. A sporty bike such as the old SV1000 could even rev up a bit higher, with the peak torque and power figures “moved” up the charts, without too much money involved in engineering this upgrade.
And to make things even simpler and easier, Luca Bar’s SV1000 has the forks, wheels, brakes and swingarm derived from the GSR machines. He also thought that some riders would like the SV in a completely naked trim, so both N and half-faired S machines could be manufactured to make everybody happy. Needless to say that the S-version has a different front cowl, with less insect-ish looks and a much sportier stance.
Suzuki could do well and ready such a machine because of at least two very good reasons: re-introducing the liter-class naked V-twin machine and completing their line-up, and the occasion to do some battle with the likes of Yamaha’s MT-09/FZ-09, in a segment with a growing popularity. And try to imagine how cool such a bike would be, especially coupled with Suzuki’s pricing policies, and performance upgrades say, Yoshimura exhausts offered for discounted prices. Seems to sound interesting, doesn’t it?
