Suzuki Hungary Reveals SX4 S-Cross Facelift with 1.4 Turbo at Event

This is the 2016 facelift of the SX4 S-Cross, revealed at an event held by Suzuki Hungary. It's rare that a company misses the opportunity of teasing a new car bit by bit. But we appreciate Suzuki being up-front and saying "look, this is just a facelift for our crossover."

The first generation SX4 was a big deal. But there weren't any cars like it at that time. For the second-gen, they went with a much bigger body that can accommodate more of your stuff, yet people don't seem to like it as much.

Three years after the start of production, this Hungarian-made hatch is getting a completely new look. Suzuki is quite bold with the design changes, as they don't match any of their other European cars. Maybe the all-new Swift will look like it's related.

From the front, the S-Cross facelift looks a lot like recent Peugeot, such as the 2008 and 3008. The grille looks like a hexagon that's been squeezed out and covered with chrome. Meanwhile, the photos we have, courtesy of Rushlane, show major updates for the headlights, which have LED strips up top and large projector beams.

The changes are a lot more subtle around the back, where they left the taillights pretty much as they were and only added some trim. It doesn't match the other end of the car perfectly, but that's not entirely uncommon for facelifts.

Two major features are being borrowed from the newer Vitara crossover, also made in Hungary. One is the infotainment screen and the other an engine.

Suzuki has freed up some funds to pursue turbocharging and offers a 1.4-liter turbo engine. It made its debut on the Vitara and will also be available with many SX4 versions, including ones that have AWD and automatic gearbox options.

The other available engine is a 1.6-liter turbodiesel. We don't know if it will be recalled or anything like that, so be cautious when buying the SX4 S-Cross.
