Suzuki Ecstar Welcomes Akrapovic as Official MotoGP Partner

One could be tempted to believe that Suzuki would be using Yoshimura exhausts for their premier class machines, but it turns out that another manufacturer is the top choice in MotoGP. Akrapovic and team Suzuki Ecstar announce a new partnership aimed at improving the racing effort of House Hamamatsu.
The partnership will become effective starting this very weekend, with Suzuki's two riders, Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales heading out in Free Practice 1 tomorrow morning with a new tune to their bikes.

Suzuki's factory machines will be equipped with the first incarnation of the MotoGP exhausts, but the team will be working closely with Akrapovic to develop the exhausts through the remainder of the championship.

According to official Akrapovic sources, the two manufacturers have worked together in the past and share some racing history. It will be interesting to see if their collaboration on the race track will also yield Akrapovic exhausts to be offered as aftermarket options in Suzuki dealerships.

Indianapolis is nowhere near the ideal track for Suzuki

As to how much will the new Akrapovic exhausts help Suzuki until the Slovenian specialist finely tunes the cans for the GSX-RR is hard to say.

Most likely, Akrapovic will first need to catch up and sync with the Suzuki development team and then work together to provide the best parts to help Hamamatsu squeeze every last bit of power out their machines.

If anything, we can tell you that Indy is not the best track for Suzuki, as the blue machines have the disadvantage of weaker acceleration in long straight lines.

With two long straights and the very fast Turn 5, the GSX-RR's agile nature in fast successive turns remains the only solution to minimize the losses in less favorable sections.

Anyway, Suzuki is still in their first year of on-track development with the bike, and there are many good things that await in the future.
