Suzuki Confirms Alvaro Bautista for 2010

Starting 2010, the MotoGP fans will have the chance to see another breathtaking on-track duel between two of the most appreciated Spanish riders currently in action in the FIM World Road Racing Championship, Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo and Suzuki's newly-signed Alvaro Bautista.

Yesterday evening, a few hours after the official end of the Brno weekend in Czech Republic, Suzuki confirmed it has signed a 2-year deal with the former 125cc champion starting next year. However, Bautista's teammate for 2010 is yet to be known, as the Japanese manufacturer did not confirm either its two current riders Loris Capirossi and Chris Vermeulen.

However, according to some media reports issued by the Italian media recently, it seems the MotoGP veteran is closer to landing a one-year extension with Suzuki, as Vermeulen has been struggling with his GSV-R for the majority of the 2009 season. Only 5 points separate the two riders in the MotoGP standings, with Capirossi leading his teammate from 9th place.

Suzuki Motor Corporation is pleased to announce that Spaniard Alvaro Bautista will be joining its official MotoGP team in a two year agreement, to contest the 2010 and 2011 MotoGP World Championships,” said the official statement from Rizla Suzuki late yesteday.

Suzuki is very pleased to have achieved the signing of one of the brightest young stars in Grand Prix racing and looks forward to developing a strong relationship and exciting races with Alvaro Bautista,” added the announcement.

The Spaniard recently scored a 3rd place at Brno this weekend and is currently trailing Scot Racing's Hiroshi Aoyama for the 250cc lead, being only 15 points behind the Japanese rider in the overall standings.
