Suzuki Aim for Valencia Podium

With the Top 5 very much indisputable in the overall riders' classification, there's little to expect from the upcoming Valencia Grand Prix in the MotoGP class. Apart from Valentino Rossi's desire to avenge his last two runs at the Ricardo Tormo circuit – when he lost the world title and runner-up spot in 2006 and 2007 respectively – the season's finale is also considered a good chance to end the year on a high note for most teams in the paddock.

Suzuki is one of those teams, having both riders fighting for either securing their position in the overall classification (Loris Capirossi) or try to improve it (Chris Vermeulen). Also in the teams' standings, Rizla Suzuki are currently 4th overall, only 4 points ahead of their nearest rival Tech 3 Yamaha.

“I think Valencia will be good for us because it is not really a quick track and our bike is good for handling and braking, so we hope to go really well. The weather can sometimes be very difficult there because it can be quite cold, but I believe we can go really fast in Valencia. It is the last race and is a good opportunity to start working on how we want to continue next year,” previewed Capirossi the Valencia GP.

The Italian has finished on the Valencia podium three times in the past, although his 2007 performance only got him a 5th place at the finish line. His best performance at Valencia so far was a 2nd place finish in 2006.

Chris Vermeulen, on the other hand, is expecting a tough battle with Yamaha's Colin Edwards for 7th place in the overall classification. Only 9 points separates the two with one race to go in the season and the Australian feels very confident that his Suzuki will perform very well on the twisty Ricardo Tormo track.

“Valencia is a great circuit and it suits us with it not having very long straights. The Suzuki works well on the tight and twisty type of circuit and last year we were very quick there. I'm really looking forward to going back. Hopefully, we can stand on the podium one more time this year. That's the plan and I really think it is possible,” said Vermeulen.
