Sutil Says He Has Matured with Force India

Adrian Sutil was close to leaving the Force India Mercedes team at the end of the 2009 season, when he held negotiations with a bunch of rival teams for a 2010 seat. The German decided however to extend his stay at Silverstone for a 4th consecutive season, considering the good development path experienced by the Indian outfit in the second part of 2009.

Additionally, the German insisted that one more reason he decided to stay with the team for the 2010 season was the good feeling he has within an organization he joined in its Spyker days.

After four years, I have a great influence on the team. In the first year with Spyker it wasn't working out but today I feel very comfortable,” said Sutil in a recent interview with spox.com, while admitting he is “glad in hindsight that I extended the contract.”

Last year, when the car was competitive enough mid-way through the season, his more experienced teammate Giancarlo Fisichella was collecting the goods, while he had to settle for poor race finishes. Following the Italian's move to Ferrari, Sutil became the leader of the team and matured enough to start scoring points for Vijay Mallya's outfit.

I was thrown into the deep end with a good car and didn't know how to deal with the opportunity to have podium finishes,” said Sutil, referring to last season. “I often felt too much pressure and wanted things too quickly and as a result I made silly mistakes.

It is a learning process and I have learned. I feel that as a driver, I have matured,” added the 27-year old German.

Although becoming the second driver to score points for Force India this season – after two point-scoring finishes from teammate Vitantonio Liuzzi – Sutil has out-qualified the Italian on every occasion in 2010, while also leading him in the standings by 2 points.
