“Nobody will be finding half a second in their car, because right now it's really hard to improve the cars. Everybody is at a point where it's hard to find every single tenth,” said Sutil in an interview posted on Force India's official website.
Talking about the updates that the Force India mechanics are preparing to fit the VJM03 with in Barcelona, Sutil admitted the new parts will be focused on increasing the downforce level of the car, given that the Spanish track requires it. However, he sees the Top 10 virtually unchanged as compared to the Chinese Grand Prix, with Red Bull still leading the field.
“We've got a few bits, but the car will be very good there (at Barcelona) I think, and the top 10 will be very similar to what we've seen in the last few races. There you just need downforce, so I think it's a Red Bull circuit again. You have a long straight, but if you have a quick car through the corners, it's definitely a better way,” added the German driver.
As usual, Force India will target a Q3 entry with at least one of their cars on Saturday, while searching for another points finish (it would be their 4th this season) in the championship. In China, neither of its two drivers managed to cross the finish line, while rivals for 5th place in the manufacturers' classification Renault pulled off a 5th and 7th place finish with Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov.
Under the circumstances, Force India is obliged to leave Barcelona with some points in their pocket, as the gap behind Renault in the standings has now extended to 28 points.
