Sutil Admits Guilt in Nightclub Fight, Apologizes

Adrian Sutil has now confirmed that it was indeed him who caused a Lotus Renault GP official an injury during a night out in Shanghai, prior to the Chinese Grand Prix almost a month ago.

Yesterday, citing media from Italy, we reported that Renault owner Genii executive Eric Lux – also Gerard Lopez right hand – was spotted in the paddock for last weekend's Turkish Grand Prix with scars on his right hand. Reporters quickly linked this to what happened in a Shanghai nightclub three weeks back, when Lux was seen leaving the premises bleeding from the neck.

Although Lewis Hamilton was in the same place at the time of the incident, eyewitnesses told the media that Lux got into a fist-fight with Force India's Adrian Sutil. Both Force India and Renault have issued statements in which they confirm an incident had occurred, but insisted the matter will be resolved between the parties involved.

During a private event, there was a very unfortunate action by me in which I hurt another person completely unintentionally,” finally confirmed Sutil in a media statement to the German press, according to a report from the GMM news agency.

I regret the incident and have apologised accordingly. Since this was a private event and not directly related to formula one or my job as a formula one driver, I ask for understanding that I will say no more on this incident,” he added.

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) is believed to have commenced an investigation of its own into the matter, but no official confirmation came from the ruling body just yet.

According to the Daily Mail, the German driver injured the Renault official with a broken glass (which caused the bleeding). And piggybacking on that story, French commentator Jean-Louis Moncet wrote in his Auto Plus column that Sutil was drunk when it all happened.
