While most athletes in the National Football League will be preparing for big games this weekend, Josh Gordon will be looking to sell some Chevrolets and Fords. The 23-year-old Cleveland Browns wide receiver has been suspended for the entire 2014 season for violating the league’s drug policy, so he’ll keep busy this year by teaming up with a local Ohio car dealership group to drum up some goodwill and publicity.
After his yearlong suspension was finalized, the Sarchione Auto Group in Alliance, OH (about an hour southeast of Cleveland) contacted the third-year wide receiver out to offer him a job, according to Automotive News. It wasn’t announced what kind of compensation the dealership will be giving Gordon, but we’re guessing it’s a hefty sum that won’t be commission based. Instead, the report says that he will participate in community events as a goodwill ambassador, and he will also “learn the ropes of the car business.”

A report from ESPN says that the ban is the result of a failed drug test where he tested positive for marijuana. Gordon claims that the failed test was due to secondhand smoke, and while he had gotten in trouble at Baylor for smoking or possessing marijuana, he says that it has been more than three years (before he got into the NFL) since he’s smoked any. Not factoring into the matter, Gordon was arrested in North Carolina back in July for driving while impaired (DWI) with a blood-alcohol level of .09 – the legal limit in NC is .08.

Drafted by the Browns in 2012, Gordon had a breakout season in 2013 with 87 receptions, 1,646 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
