Susie Stoddart Wants F1 Test

Susie Stoddart recently scored points for the second time in her DTM career, despite driving a 2008-spec AMG Mercedes C-Klasse in the German Series. The 27-year-old Scottish driver, who is also the partner of Williams co-owner Christian 'Toto' Wolff in her personal life, came 7th in this weekend's round at Hockenheim, confirming once again that she's one of the most talented female drivers on the old continent.

You wonder what does that have to do with F1? Apparently, Paul di Resta is not the only Mercedes driver in the DTM that wants a shot in the Great Circus. Although not as vocal as her compatriot regarding a future step to F1 in recent years, Stoddart admitted that her ultimate goal is to race in the premier FIA single-seater series.

I dream about Formula One,” said Stoddart in a recent interview with Austrian magazine SportWoche. “I would at least like my first test. That's what I really want to do. But I don't want it to just be a PR stunt. I want to show them what I can do.”

For the first time since she's competing in the DTM – she started in 2006 – Stoddart is actually on the scoreboard in 2010, having finished two times in the Top 8 this campaign (Lausitz and Hockenheim). She is currently 12th overall, one point ahead of Merc's works driver Ralf Schumacher and Maro Engel.

Stoddart is not the first female driver linked with some sort of F1 action in recent years, as American racer Danica Patrick was also rumored a year back to potentially make the step into the FIA-sanctioned series. That prospect died once the US F1 project failed to survive.
