In case you never thought something like this would be possible, allow us to say that the race for fuel efficiency has its pioneers. Among them is a team of motorsport enthusiasts who embarked a trip sponsored by Neste, the world's largest producer of renewable diesel.
Oh, in case you're trying to laugh their initiative, we're here to tell you Tanner Foust, four-time X Games gold medal winner, three-time U.S. Rallycross champion and two-time Formula Drift champion, will join the challenge for the final leg into Los Angeles.

The primary goal for the team is to make it from Atlantic Coast of Florida to the Pacific Coast of California on just one tank of renewable fuel. That's ambitious no matter from what angle you're looking at their attempt, but they have some aces up their sleeves.

For starters, the car used in this endeavour is a Superlite Coupe (SLC) that is custom-built by CLP Motorsports and boasts an aluminum monocoque chassis and a fiberglass body. In translation, it's a pretty light car.

The vehicle is also powered by a Volkswagen-sourced 1.9 TDI diesel engine that we assume is capable of returning around (or less than) 75 miles per gallon (3.1 l/100 km) over the 2,400-mile (3,862 km) trip.

However, you also need to know that the fuel is made from renewable materials, and its use can reduce carbon emissions up to 90 percent, according to Neste. Moreover, the company says their fuel can be used for modern diesel engines. Therefore, both cars and trucks can travel by burning it in an eco-friendly fashion.
