The original Shelby Daytona Coupe – built in just six examples – is one of the most important pieces of motorsport history for the Blue Oval. It was created just prior to Caroll Shellby’s refocus on the Ford GT40 project for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and officially raced by the company to great success, bringing the first title for an American manufacturer in the FIA GT International Championship (a.k.a. the WSC - World Sportscar Championship).
Naturally, with such historic significance came also the prospect of building a modern business around it – note the Shelby American continuation Daytonas from 2015 (honoring the 50th anniversary of the WSC title) or the Ford Shelby GR-1.

There were also significant aftermarket efforts, and chief among them is the Superformance Shelby Daytona Coupe (also called the Brock Coupe, after designer Peter Brock, who also styled the original racers), which is the only licensed continuation model.

Well, this here is a 2005 Brock Coupe with a twist. Originally dressed up in a very subtle gray shade and thoroughly raced by Doug Campbell from Superformance, it became a fitting present for his wife Marissa. There’s just one thing – can you imagine a proper lady driving around in such a vehicle?

No worries, because the Superformance take on the Shelby Daytona Coupe came to the attention of one Chip Foose – the one and only American automobile designer, artist, and star of reality television series Overhaulin’. Yes, it’s the same man that shares a deep love for racing Fords, including the Daytona Coupe, which is one of the reasons he named his son Brock.

One can only imagine that working on the Superformance Coupe became something very personal for both Fooses; the dad was responsible for the new styling, while the son actually painted the Hawaiian flowers from inside the cockpit! By the way, to check out the interior just head over to the 6:20 mark.

Before that, you may want to hear the rundown on the exterior modifications (from 3:35) because there’s a lot more than one might initially think, complete with shout outs to Jags of the past and a little nod to Chevrolet’s Camaro by way of the stop lights.

The entire story of how Marissa got her ride on Overhaulin’ blends nicely with the driving part (kicking off at the 7:05 mark), while Shawn – the host of the AutotopiaLA YouTube channel – also gets to enjoy this unique car from 10:33 and try his skill at performing one of the series’ signature burnouts.
