With the new Golf just around the corner, it might be a great time to get a good real on a MkVI, and given the high gas prices we’re experiencing, the Golf 1.6 TDi 105 PS could be the pick of the bunch.
But in a car filled with technology, is 105 PS enough to satisfy your needs? Superchips has found a way to pull more power from the engine. Their ECU remap realises a proven maximum power gain of 41 bhp at 4070 rpm. With this, the peak power output matches that of the 148 bhp Mk4 Golf GTI 1.8T, built from 1997.

Torque is also improved, and Superchips says they have registered a dyno-proven maximum of 307 Nm (226 lb-ft). By comparison, the current Mk6 Golf GTI produces a peak torque output of 280 Nm (206 lb-ft).

The ECU remap works with both the 5-speed manual and 7-speed DSG variants of the March 2009 onwards 105 PS (103 bhp) Mk6 Volkswagen Golf 1.6 TDI, including the Bluemotion models. In Britain, pricing has been set at £455.00 inclusive of installation and taxes, and you also get a 12 month or 30,000 mile warranty.
