Superchips is a British company that really enjoys playing with automotive electronics with the aim to offer customers a power and torque premium. The company’s latest development targets the 2010 Porsche Cayenne diesel, which has received an ECU remap.
The company said that it has responded to customer demand for increased low speed torque and tweaked the Bosch EDC17 ECU of the vehicle’s 2,967 cc turbocharged V6 powerplant, paying special attention to preserving the refinement of the unit.
“Responding to customer demand for increased low speed torque, Superchips engineers extensively analysed the Porsche’s Bosch EDC17 ECU, finding a number of areas where performance optimisation could occur on the Cayenne’s 2967cc V6 turbo diesel engine without compromising reliability or refinement,” stated the press release.
The engine, which delivers 240 hp between 4,000 and 4,400 rpm and a peak torque of 405 lb-ft (549 Nm) between 2,000 and 2,250 rpm, has received a power boost of 47 hp at 4,044 rpm, while the torque was increased by 60 lb-ft (82 Nm). In addition to that, the vehicle’s performance has been enhanced starting from 1,800, a rev area that really makes the difference in the real world.
The company insisted that the modifications do not affect the vehicle’s fuel efficiency.
“Pleasingly, the Porsche Caynenne’s much praised fuel economy is unaffected by the Superchips ECU remap and in most instances consumption improves due to the extra low rev torque available to the driver. Installation of the Superchips ECU remap for Porsche Cayenne Diesel Sport models entails customers visiting one of approximately 80 Superchips performance centres, where trained technicians can undertake the remapping procedure,” stated the press release.
The ECU remap, which is suitable for Cayenne vehicles produced from March 2010 onwards is offered for a price of GBP445.
