Superchips Boosts Performance for the Ford Fiesta 1.6 TDCi

Ford’s little Fiesta is one of the best cars in its segment. Its shard looks and focused driving feel also make it a best-seller in Great Britain. However, with just 94 hp available from the most popular 1.6-liter TDCi, it struggles to offer performance that matches its looks.

Superchips, one of the world’s biggest supplier of automotive ECU remapping enterprise, has created a performance boosting upgrade. The engine remap provides a power gain for both the 87 hp and the 94 hp versions of the 1.6-liter diesel, but also boost fuel efficiency.

According to the tuner, dyno testing has shown a power has increased by 23 hp at 4,275 rpm, with power gains right through the engine’s operating range. Based on the data, a Superchips-upgraded 1.6 TDCi Fiesta is more powerful than the current performance flagship from Ford, the Zetec S, that is offered with 118 hp.

When it comes to torque, the ECU remap provides a useful boost to the Fiesta 1.6 TDCi’s output, producing an increase of 36 Nm (25 lb-ft) at 4159 rpm. Performance is also boosted right across the rev range. Thus, Fiesta TDCi owners will enjoy livelier in-gear acceleration for overtaking.

Despite the performance increase, the car’s fuel efficiency remains unaffected by the Superchips ECU remap. In fact, in most instances consumption improves, largely thanks to the extra low rev torque available to the driver.

Unfortunately, the remap for the Mk7 Ford Fiesta 1.6 TDCi is not a bolt-on, as it requires customers to visit one of approximately 80 centers in Great Britain.
