Supercars in Geneva, Nothing to Dream About

With the Geneva Motor Show just around the apex, there are quite a few supercars waiting to kickstart Spring. Each one of them is a horsepower explosion ready to generate tons of smoking rides and drives throughout the year that lies ahead. I should be dreaming about Geneva every night and yet I find nothing here to keep my mind busy. The whole story is actually a list of rather predictable events, there's nothing truly inspirational here.
I’ll talk about Ferrari first, not because it has this alphabetical right, but thanks to its return to the turbo religion. The Prancing Horse is using the Geneva Motor Show to welcome turbocharged engines back in its range. I’ve seen Porsche and McLaren doing a rather magic job with their forced induction supercars, so I just can’t wait for Ferrari’s reply. I am looking forward to the moment.

Except that’s not quite true. Unfortunately, Ferrari has chosen a California revamp for the move. I found the current California a mediocre effort, so excuse me if I’m not thrilled about receiving a “T” at the end of it. Perhaps the changes will make the California a brilliant car, I still don’t care - The last turbocharged Ferrari was the F40 and now we get this?

Then there’s McLaren with the 650S. First of all, the name is not right. I am not saying it sounds like a motorcycle, which it does, but it is simply... uninspiring. McLaren got it wrong with the unpronounceable MP4-12C, which they quietly renamed 12C one day. It seems that they never learn.

Going past that, we’ve all seen spyshots with something codenamed the P13 and were expecting to see their new, entry-level model in Geneva. It all made sense, but no, now they come up with this 12C that tries a P1 impersonation. I’m sure it will be a blast to drive, but supercars are supposed to be inspirational more than anything else.

Zenvo will also be joining the performance machine bandwagon in Switzerland with the ST1. An interesting animal this ST1, but then again, this is simply an European debut, nothing all that new.

Koenigsegg is not better either. Instead of free candy, their Geneva booth will be treating us with the One:1. To put it shortly, this is an even wilder version of the Agera, which will have a 1:1 horsepower-to-weight ratio. One thousand three hundred and forty horses for one thousand three hundred and forty kilos.

The Swedes claim their One:1 will set a range of records longer than the company’s name. And I believe them, perhaps even fear for Bugatti, but I’m still not dreaming.
