While Hondas are renowned for their durability and reliability, it seems that the Japanese manufacturer may have lost its touch in making its cars ‘bulletproof’. This is not the first recall in recent months, and the fact that it involves over 190,000 units asks a lot of questions.
The problem for which they are being recalled has to do with the doors not locking properly, if both handles are pulled at the same time, causing the doors to possibly open (we say under hard cornering). This is a major design flaw with which the car should have never left the factory. It affects the 2012 and 2013 model-year CR-V as well as the 2012 and 2013 model-year Acura ILX, totaling some 190,000 cars, 20,000 of which are from Canada.
The recall will begin in mid-August and Honda will replace the door latches and handles for free. They should also right a personal apology letter to each and every customer who bought the car and could have been seriously injured because they did not test the doors thoroughly enough before launching the cars.
