In case you’re still wondering what it takes to “make it” in today’s world, the latest viral video has the answer: confidence, shamelessness and the guts to brave all the bacteria on an NYC subway car.
Meet the latest viral star, Jessiica George, aka Subway Bae. She is beautiful and fashionable, but most importantly, she is feeling herself. After all, what good is it to use public transport, especially of the kind found in NYC, if you’re not using it to stage your own selfie sesh?

This happened a few days ago and was caught on camera by actor / singer Ben Yahr. He posted the video to his Twitter and it took off in spectacular fashion, raking in views by the millions. The reason is obvious: here is a beautiful girl working it on her own, without giving a dime on what people might think of her, against the often-squalid background of a NYC subway car. It sure beats looking at a rat trying to pole-dance.

“[I] thought it was pretty incredible that someone would be so shameless and also awesome that she was feelin’ herself so hard,” Yahr tells The Huffington Post of his decision to record this moment.

George herself got in contact with the publication and she explained her impromptu selfie session by the fact that the car was almost empty. This doesn’t happen to her that often on the J train, so she placed her phone on her handbag and set to work.

“I saw an empty subway car and was alone, so the self-timer had to come out! At the next stop, people got on the train but I decided to continue. It was very spontaneous,” she says. “[It was] something for me to post on Twitter for my 200 followers.”

For the record, she now has more followers than Yahr.

While most commenters praise George for bringing some glamor to the daily commute, there are also those who lament her stupidity in touching the bacteria-infested floor, pole and chair, and then running her hands all over her face and through her hair. A smaller group sees in this video a social commentary on modern man’s isolation and narcissism, but if you’re here for the glamor, here it is:
