Wait a second... Isn’t this concept car’s design and function somehow evoking a vehicle from some futuristic shooter video game? Oh, look, it also has a Subaru badge. Guess one designer there really enjoyed Mass Effect, because the Viziv 2 concept really looks like an all-terrain vehicle to explore harsh other-planet conditions. Check the video if you don’t believe.
Subaru revealed the first Viziv concept last year and said that will be the new design study that will influence its next vehicles. However, a somehow simple-shaped crossover with C-shaped daytime running lights, rear lamps and huge butterfly doors returned to be not that cool for the automaker.

So, a design team was dispatched again and added more “wow” to the concept, thus renaming the final thing Viziv 2. First thing you notice now on the new concept crossover is that those C-shaped lights have shrunk and two round holes can be found both at front and the back of the car. However, the first sketches showed that these holes at the front were looking too much like exhausts, so Subaru decided to make them LED foglights by illuminating both their center and outer rim. Now its cool, special and space age... they seem to be some sort of thrusters to aid you on planets where gravity doesn’t allow for too much traction.

Continuing with the crazy features, the designers split the huge side doors in two separate ones on each side, and while the front ones open in a butterfly manner, the rear ones have a more complex pop-out-and-slide movement to allow passengers easily reach the rear seats. Neat, but we don’t see these getting on a production car too soon.

As with the trend now, the Viziv 2 crossover has an all-wheel-drive system packing a plug-in hybrid powertrain which pairs a 1.6-liter diesel engine with a CVT and three electric motors - diesel engine plus one motor powering the front wheels while the two motors spin the rear ones. Jet thrusters not included for Earth models, however.
