Although we love Subaru for its rallying efforts and the WRX STI rally-bred hoon machine, the truth of the matter is the Japanese brand’s bread and butter in the United States of America is represented by not-so-exciting family haulers. Other than the Impreza, the Outback and Legacy come to mind. This is but one of the many reasons Subaru is permanently revising these models.
For the 2017 model year, both the Subaru Outback and Subaru Legacy have been improved as overall products. The biggest news is that safety-oriented features such as High Beam Assist and Reverse Auto Braking have become available.

In the case of the 2017 Subaru Outback, the Japanese manufacturer also introduced a new trim level dubbed the Touring. Pricing isn’t available right now, yet I can tell you what goodies are offered as standard. Here goes: dark gray front grille, 18-inch alloy wheels with dark gray accents and a machined finish, woodgrain interior finish, piano-black switch panel accents, and a heated steering wheel. Other notable no-cost options include a 7.0-inch multimedia navigation system, EyeSight Driver Assist, and so forth.

As for the 2017 Subaru Legacy, the Sport trim level debuts aesthetic goodies such as gloss black housings for the fog lights, dark gray front grille, 18-inch wheels with a sporty design, two-tone gray and black cloth upholstery, as well as carbon fiber-like dashboard and door panel trim. Other goodies include the multimedia navigation system of the Outback Touring, Bluetooth hands-free text messaging, dual USB ports, and the list goes on and on and on.

Both the Outback and Legacy are powered by a 2.5-liter boxer engine paired to a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission with manual mode and paddle shifters. If you are prepared to pay a little more, then you can equip your Subaru with a more powerful 3.6-liter six-cylinder boxer (256 HP versus 175 HP).

The 2017 Subaru Outback and 2017 Subaru Legacy are bound to arrive at retailers late this summer.
