Subaru Teases XV Concept Ahead of Auto Shanghai Debut

Subaru has a lot of time under the spotlight planned for this month, as the Japanese company is ready to introduce the new Impreza sedan at the New York Auto Show. But the most popular model will also be joined by the mysterious XV Concept crossover that will bow at the upcoming Auto Shanghai in China.

Subaru calls it a new generation crossover vehicle that blends SUV practicality with a more fashionable form. Basically, what this tells us is that it will follow the design lead set by the new Impreza. “It was specifically designed for customers who are looking for a vehicle offering looks, benefits and a packaging that stretch beyond those from the populated crowd of existing crossover models,” Subaru says.

Subaru sells a variant of the Impreza called the XV, a high-riding hatchback with a unique body kit designed to offer enhanced off-road ability and outdoor practicality. The teaser image shows a vehicle with a roof rack and flared wheel arches, so this could be designed for the same role.

Subaru has left the technical side of things purposely vague, but we can expect to see the company’s Symmetrical AWD system coupled with a horizontally-opposed boxer engine.

"FHI will also showcase the Subaru’s unique technical exhibits including the Outback model’s cut body and Boxer Engines, and the Chinese rally car. With these displays and throughout the booth design, FHI will showcase Subaru’s efforts to integrate enjoyable and reliable driving and peace of mind, based on the Subaru’s core technologies of Symmetrical AWD and Horizontally-Opposed Boxer Engine,”
the company press release says.
