Subaru's Version of the FT-86 to Use 260 hp Impreza WRX STI Engine

The automotive enthusiasts form all over the world are waiting for the release of the Toyota/Subaru FT-86. The vehicle has been the subject of many spy shot sessions and we have found out that it might also be released as a Scion and that Toyota could also be planing a sedan model based on it, which will be used as a safety net, in case the coupe's sales won't reach a certain level.

As we previously reported, Subaru’s incarnation of the vehicle will be the hardcore child of the family, offering more grunt than the Toyota version. According to autocar, the Subaru vehicle has now been seen using multiple parts from the Subaru Impreza's body. The most important clue is offered by the air scoop mounted on the hood.

This comes to confirm that the car will be powered by the Impreza WRX STI’s 2.5 liter four-cylinder boxer engine that uses turbocharging. On the new coupe, the engine is expected to deliver 260 hp.

The Toyota version will also use a Subaru powerplant, but it will come with a naturally aspirated 2.0 liter flat four delivering about 200 hp. Both vehicles will features a six-speed manual gearbox, offering an involving driving experience.

Both vehicles (the Subaru and the Toyota versions) will come with a similar design, but they will use different details, such as the front fascia and the rims. Subaru also plans to offer a more aggressive animal in terms of styling, so we expect its incarnation of the car to come with bold exterior elements.
