Subaru Reveals Levorg STI Sport With 2.0 and 1.6 Turbo Engines in Japan

We have to admit that the Levorg STI is not what we expected, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. First of all, it's called STI Sport, which kind of reminds us of the M Performance models and their counterparts from Mercedes.

The Levorg STI Sport will be available starting this summer with not one but two engines. The basic one is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder boxer with a turbocharger that produces 170 PS/168 hp. Your other option is the 2-liter turbo making 300 PS or 296 hp. For the record, the STI S4 sedan they sell in Japan also has a 2-liter engine and not the 2.5-liter.

But the true way to tell that this isn't a full-on STI is the fact that both engines are paired with a CVT gearbox that simulates the workings of an 8-speed automatic.

Of course, all this talk about it being real or not is irrelevant. Unless Subaru miraculously starts selling the Levorg across the world, you won't be able to buy one with the steering wheel on the left or even the right.

But we'll have you know that the STI badge isn't just for show, and there's real tuning going on under the skin of the car. The wagon has been equipped with Bilstein DampMatic II shocks at the front, updated springs, and retuned steering.

The body kit is specific to this car and has been accomapnied by larger 18-inch wheels. Subaru is also offering the car in the famous WR Blue Pearl, which means it will look even more like a rally car. Inside, the seats have been trimmed in red leather and adorned with STI logos. Red and black is also used for the doors, steering wheel and gear shifter.

In Japan, you can already order the Levorg STI Sport from 3,488,400 yen with the 1.6-liter engine and 3,942,000 yen in the case of the Golf R rivaling 2-liter turbo.
