Subaru Recalls Baja Due to Fuel Leak

Japanese manufacturer Subaru is recalling 2005 and 2006 Baja in the United States after discovering that some models could be affected by a fuel pump glitch which might cause serious damage and injuries. The recall concerns 15,633 vehicles, according to a notification published on the official National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) site.

"Subaru is recalling 15,633 model year 2005-2006 Baja vehicles," it is mentioned in the advisory. "Cracks may develop in the fuel hose connection on the outlet pressure side of the fuel pump."

Obviously, a fuel leak can only mean imminent danger for both the car and passengers so here's what the NHTSA says about the dangers caused by glitch. "Fuel can leak from the hose connection and, in the presence of an ignition source, it could result in a fire." Quite obvious, we would say, so, in case you're a smoker driving a Baja, you'd better keep an eye on your car.

Just as expected, Subaru dealers included in the recall will conduct all operations free of charge for all models. "Dealers will replace the fuel pump bracket including all nipples with a new and stronger design part," the NHTSA explained. The recall are expected to commence in September.

As for the car, it is a crossover pickup truck introduced by Subaru in 2003 and kept in production for approximately three years. Assembled in Lafayette, Indiana, the Baja was offered with an all wheel drive system plus several standard features, including tinted windows and integrated bed liner. It is available in two 2.5-liter engine versions generating either 165 and 210 horsepower.
