Subaru Recalls 30,000 Outback, Legacy

Japanese manufacturer Subaru announced it has initiated a recall campaign for 2010 model year Outback and Legacy models. The fault which prompted the carmaker into taking this decision is a fault in the CVT cooler hose. According to the official notice posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, 29,443 units are affected by the fault.

"Subaru is recalling certain model Outback and Legacy passenger vehicles manufactured from July 31 through December 1, 2009. A crack can occur in the CVT cooler hose, resulting in a fluid leak. The manufacturer has not yet provided a description of the consequence as it relates to motor vehicle safety," the posting reads.

The 2010 Outback, which starts at $22,995, was launched at the New York Auto Show in 2009. It comes equipped with Vehicle Dynamics Controls (VDC) and Hill Holder System as standard. The Legacy on the other hand, priced at $19,995, comes equipped with McPherson strut, rear double-wishbone suspension with front and rear stabilizer bars for improved ride & handling,

It is the second recall notice posted by Subaru in the last two months. In March this year, 1,585 model 2010 Tribeca SUVs have been tagged for recall due to the front door latch cables, which have been installed in the wrong position during the car’s production process.

As a result of that fault, passengers can be ejected due to a sudden door opening or distract the driver and eventually lead to a crash.
