Subaru Names New CEO for American Operations

Japanese auto maker Subaru announced today a change in leadership of its North American operations, by appointing Takeshi Tachimori as the new CEO. Tachimori will be replacing on April 1 the current head of US operations, Yoshio Hasunuma.

Tachimori is currently corporate senior vice president and chief general manager of the Subaru Product and Portfolio Planning Division at Fuji Heavy Industries. He has been with Fuji since 1997, going through all the ranks as the years passed.

When he will be taking over the North American division, Tachimori will have some pretty big shoes to fill. Under the leadership of Hasunuma, Subaru has managed in a very short time to reach new peaks on the North American market.

For the past three years, the car maker broke record after record, managing to achieve a record market share of 2.3 percent in 2010.

"We have seen dramatic increases in our sales and profitability under Mr. Hasunuma's leadership. While we are sorry to see him leave, we look forward to his continued work in our market," said Thomas Doll, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Subaru of America.

“We are very pleased to welcome Mr. Tachimori in his new role as part of this regular business rotation and look forward to our continued success under his leadership."

Tachimori will be in charge with trying to enhance the image of the manufacturer in the years to come.
Subaru already hinted that it would try to better its vehicle in terms of both looks and engineering in the months to come, in an attempt to capture more market share.

The lines we've all seen on the Impreza Concept at the North American International Auto Show in January will be more and more part of the overall Subaru image in the future.
