The Subaru Impreza WRX STI is a car in which drifting comes as natural as breathing. However, this is only true if you know your way around the STI’s understeer-biased all-wheel drive handling, so if you really want to make this Scooby dance, you have to turn to a rear-wheel drive setup.
The STI in the adjacent clip shows how much fun you can have in a RWD STI, with the vehicle showing such a car playing wildly on a track. However, there are two ways of turning your Impreza into a RWD machine and before we talk about them, we have to tell you that we don’t know which was used for the car in the video.
First, you can have all the parts of the AWD system that power the front wheels removed. This way, you’ll not only convert the car to RWD, but also save weight. However, it would be a pity to not be able to enjoy the STI’s icing, its intelligent AWD system, so we recommend the second version: a system that offers the driver a controller which allows him to select how traction should be split between the axles. This way, you can have a both RWD and AWD on the same car.
