Subaru Impreza Sedan Preview Concept Makes World Debut in LA

Only a few weeks after showing a preview of the next Impreza hatchback in Tokyo, Subaru has made the trip across the Pacific Ocean and landed in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the car was transported next to a batch of radioactive goop and has mutated into an angry red sedan.

We're pretty sure nobody in America is going to mind if the 2017 Impreza looks like this. Of course, Fuji's car division has a long history of showing awesome concepts and coming up short with the production models. But the Civic is a great looking piece of compact metal, so now is not the time to get it wrong.

First the numbers. The concept measures 179.3 inches long, 70 inches wide and 57.2 inches tall with a wheelbase that spans 105.1 inches. In the metric system, that's 4,555mm × 1,880mm × 1,453mm with a 2,670mm wheelbase. By our calculations, that makes the next Impreza sedan slightly shorter than the Mazda3 sedan and the VW Jetta.

Compared to the current Impreza model, the wheelbase is longer by an inch but the overall length is shorter by the same amount. We've talked about the platform before, a modular architecture that Subaru plans to use for everything, including crossovers.

The concept rolls around on 235/40 R19 wheels that would be really uncomfortable on a cobbled road and is painted in a color called "Ruby Red Metallic" that looks like it belongs on a Lexus.

The company's new design language is called Dynamic x Solid. Subie says what you see here previews not only the Impreza but several future models. Compared to the previous concept, the hatchback, this sedan features a slightly tweaked front air dam and blacked out trim.

We find the back to be the most interesting, especially from the three-quarter angle. The trunk has a protruding spoiler shape and C-shaped taillights with an angular look. Please, Subaru, don't change anything because it's perfect just like that!
