We have more good an bad news coming your way from the famous Japanese AWD specialist automaker. We’ve already told you that Subaru’s lineup for the 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon includes a whole bunch of BRZ sports coupe versions.
But what die-hard Subaru fans want right now is the new Impreza STI, powered by a smaller 2.0-liter turbo boxer instead of the old 2.5-liter. The good news is that such a car will be previewed at the Tokyo venue by the G4 STI Concept, but the bad new is that it’s actually just a regular JDM Impreza G4 sedan with a bunch of cosmetic touches.

We’re excited to see what the car will look like wearing a full body kit, and some 18-inch rally boots. But the fact of the matter is that the next STI was supposed to be different to the Impreza, a standalone product that’s still loosely based on the same suspension.
