According to new reports from Japan, Subaru is working on a new version of the BRZ sportscar, developed by the STI go-fast division. This car will reportedly be re-engineered from the ground up with a sportier setup and improved performance, but it’s the engine that has everybody talking.
The turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer that will be used in the next Impreza WRX will be use, producing 280 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque, all of which will be sent to the rear wheels. The block will be the same as the BRZ, but Subaru is on its own with this one so it will have the simple direct injection rather than Toyota’s DI/port-injection system. Still, a twin-scroll turbo should make the engine relatively efficient.

STI will launch a range of performance parts for the BRZ that should keep fans happy until this turbo car arrives, most likely in 2014.
