The recent unveiling of the Subaru BRZ sports coupe has left us a bit underwhelmed. Yes, it promises to bring back affordable and enjoyable motoring for the masses, but a 6-second 2+2 is barely worth calling sporty. The Japanese automaker did however worn us this car is not about monster top speed, instead focusing on feel and sensation, but we’re still left wanting more excitement.
Thankfully, more excitement is just what’s coming to the 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon, a sort of Japanese version of the SEMA Show. Subaru has pledged to show up with a number of exciting products, starting with the BRZ STI Concept that was shown in Los Angeles in November. Recent rumors have suggested the performance version will be powered by the same turbocharged engine as the Impreza WRX, proving 270 hp, but we can’t know for sure right now.
Next up is the BRZ Black Edition by PROVA, a company that sell aftermarket parts for the Impreza and which also helped develop Subaru race cars. The Tokyo Auto Salon will also see the announcement that Subaru will enter the BRZ GT300 into the Intercontinental Rally Challenge and the Nurburgring 24 Hours next year.
