Study: These Are the Cars Sold Most After One Year of Ownership – Photo Gallery

Buying a brand spanking new car is an incredible experience for anyone. Be it a run-of-the-mill Mazda2 to a full-on Ferrari FF, few things can mirror the emotions that go through an individual when he or she is in the showroom, putting down that deposit.

It's even better on delivery: the smell, the tactile experience, the first turn of the key, you name it. Despite the uniqueness of going through the pains and joys of buying a new car, a recent study from iSeeCars finds that up to 11 percent of new cars are sold as used in the United States of America after one year of ownership, with up to 15,000 miles on the clock. What's wrong with this picture, you're asking?

Mr. Phong Ly, the chief exec of the popular car search engine, explains: iSeeCars.com analysts think the fact that consumers are giving more of these cars up than the average is directly linked to quality or perceived quality of the cars. Because purchasing a new car is expensive and something most people tend to spend a lot of time on, it stands to reason they would make a change shortly afterward if they felt the quality was lacking.”

From approximately 5 million new 2014 model year vehicles sold between September 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014 and more than 140,000 used cars from the same model year sold a year later between September 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015, the numbers are in.

The website's study found that seven new 2014MY nameplates stood out for having a significantly larger percentage of being sold after one year of ownership when compared to the average of 2.7 percent. The percentage of these cars sold ranged from 7 percent to 11 percent or about 2.6 to 4 times the average.

The main culprits may come as a surprise to many of you, us included. From worst to not-bottom-line-worst, the Buick Regal is at the top of the ranking, followed by the Chevrolet Sonic, BMX X1, Dodge Charger, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Chevrolet Cruze and Nissan Frontier. An interesting fact is that all seven cars were ranked as average (3 stars) or worse than that in the J.D. Power 2014 U.S. Initial Quality Study.
