Student Auto Skills Ready for 2011 Face Off

As it happened in the past 62 years, American manufacturer Ford, together with the AAA are getting ready to greet the wiz kids from all 50 states in a competition meant to award those worthy and open some important career doors as well.

This year, between June 12-14 at Ford World Headquarters in Michigan, one hundred high school automotive technology students will get their chance to prove their worth, earn the glory and, at the same time, snatch a portion of the $12 million pie the organizers have cooked especially for the event.

As usual, those taking part in the competition will have to prove their skills by taking a written automotive skills and knowledge test and by racing against one another to identify the specially designed glitches and bugs in identical 2011 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4 trucks.

For the winners, that is those who manage to get the highest score at the written exam and the shortest time at the practical one, the organizers have prepared the aforementioned prize, to be handed as scholarships, as well as the opportunity to get behind the scenes of a major NASCAR race, as part of the Roush Fenway Racing Nationwide Series No. 6 Ford team. The winning teens will be on site for the Subway Jalapeno 250 race on July 1 at Daytona International Speedway.

The interest in the competition this year was huge, with some 10,000 students signing up for the first exam which took place in March. Stay tuned to see which one of the remaining 100 will take home the win.
