If you’re a hardcore driver and none of the supercars from this era are satisfying the need to punish yourself behind the wheel anymore, maybe you should go full berserk and drive an old Grand Prix single seater with no assists. Oh wait, you can’t do it on the road... Or can you?
Well, if you’re into the 1960’s single seaters, the closest thing you could legally drive on the road is the Light Car Company’s (LCC) Rocket that you can see here in the photos.
It has been designed by Gordon Murray, the father of the McLaren F1 supercar, and apart from the wheels and lights, you could swear this thing was screaming down the Monza track in the 1960 Italian Grand Prix.
The Rocket’s lightweight tube-frame construction allows for a weight of under 500 kg (1100 lb) even with the driver onboard, which is light enough for the 170 hp 1-liter bike engine to throw it around with almost no effort.
Zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) is reached in roughly 4 seconds and the damn thing can go as fast as 140 mph (225 km/h). Which should feel like riding a rocket due to its open cockpit construction and no assists whatsoever.
There aren’t many Rockets out there to have, so you should take advantage of this properly taken care of one-owner unit which is for sale here. The price sticker says $99,500 but the fine print reads it’s negotiable.
