This week marks a very important moment in the history of legendary UK manufacturer Norton Motorcycles, as the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued the Certificate of Conformity for the 2013 models in the Commando 961 series.
This is a milestone for the British manufacturer, after the successful durability tests carried out during September in the US checking the compliance with the EPA and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) exhaust, noise and evaporative emissions for the three bikes.
Now, we might say the North American customers' wait will soon come to an end and the Commando 961 motorcycles will soon be in US dealerships.
At the same time, under new management and with a more ambitious, and well-thought plan, Norton is also eyeing to establish dealerships in new countries, as part of a worldwide offensive. Countries such as the US, Canada or Japan seem to be on the list.
So far, Norton will deliver three versions of their Commando 961 platform
Norton will field three Commando 961 bikes, the Cafe Racer, 961 Sport and 961 SE. All three machines are built on the same platform, and are differentiated by rather minimal tech details, and more aesthetics ones.
It looks like the 961cc parallel twin engine will ba good for around 80 horsepower and 90 Nm (66 lb-ft) of torque, with a wet clutch actuating a 5-speed gearbox.
There is no date officially announced when these three Norton motorcycles will be available in the US. However, we might expect them in dealerships in the first 2013 quarter.
