Stormtroopers and Starfighter Pilots Take Over Changi Airport As X-wing and TIE Fighter "Land"

When you check out at the airport after a long flight, the last thing you expect is to realize you’re still dreaming and are a long way from home. But that must have been what passengers getting off their airplane had to feel last week in Singapore’s Changi Airport, when they saw two life-size Star Wars spacecraft and an army of Stormtroopers and Starfighter Pilots marching on the stairs.
Tickets on board the X-Wing Fighter will be given on a first come, first served basis, with a total of 80 tickets being available for each time slot 8 photos

But worry not, young padawan, the force was strong in the people using the airport as they quickly came to realize it was part of a scene, a moment of celebration organized in anticipation of the long-awaited Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie. As a matter of fact, both the stormtroopers and starfighter pilots overran the airport to mark the unveiling of the two iconic Star Wars spacecraft.

For the heavy travelers among you, it should be said the life-size X-wing sits at Terminal 3, while a scale model of the TIE Fighter stands tall at Terminal 2. Both contraptions will remain on display until January 5, and members of the public can even hop in and get a selfie. According to Toggle, tickets on board the X-Wing Fighter will be given on a first come, first served basis, with a total of 80 tickets being available for each time slot.

If the post-Halloween scenario does not trigger the force within, you need not worry, there’s still hope for you to deny the dark side. The same Al Nippon Airways R2-D2 Jet unveiled earlier this year should also be at Star Wars fans’ disposal. The airliner made its grand entrance at Changi Airport the other day, as Singapore is the first Asian stop outside of Japan for this chartered flight from Tokyo.

The 787-9 Dreamliner was covered in R2-D2 lines and colors as part of a 5-year “Star Wars Project,” a way for the company to reinvent itself. The jet has been flagged for international routes and recently started cruising the skies.
