Stoner Tops Sepang Testing Despite Pain Struggle

The pain following his wrist surgery this winter might trouble Ducati's Casey Stoner, but it sure didn't keep the Aussie from scoring the best time of the second day of testing at Sepang circuit. The former world champ completed the fewest laps out of the entire pack of drivers, as he again had to struggle with the pain.

He only ran 29 laps, but recorded the best time of 2:01.483, only 0.072 seconds better than second placed Loris Capirossi. Suzuki must really have some good things going for them this season, as both drivers managed to get into the Top 5 for the second day running (Capirossi in 2nd and teammate Chris Vermeulen in 5th place, 0.603 seconds behind Stoner).

Third overall was reigning champion Valentino Rossi. The Yamaha rider completed 40 laps on the Sepang track and finished the day 0.143 seconds behind Stoner. Teammate Jorge Lorenzo improved his time as compared to the first testing session on Thursday by more than 0.8 seconds, ending the day with the best time of 2:03.056. It was the second time this year the Spaniard tried out the new Bridgestone tires on his Yamaha YZR-M1.

Dani Pedrosa recorded the 4th best time of the day, 0.377 seconds behind session winner Stoner. Following Vermeulen, Toni Elias, Colin Edwards, Andrea Dovizioso, Nicky Hayden and Lorenzo completed the overall Top 10.
