Stock McLaren 720S Sets 9.7s 1/4-Mile World Record, Beats P1

If you're in the market for a supercar and are into drag racing, the McLaren 720S is your weapon of choice. The Woking animal has already it can take out any direct competitor and even punch above its weight by playing with hypercars or defeating tuner cars with four-digit outputs. And, as if the 720S hadn't already showcased its sprinting potential, an example of the British toy recently set a new quarter-mile world record.

Keep in mind we're talking about a stock incarnation of the mid-engined delight here, with the supercar having managed to complete the 1,320-feet run in 9.7 seconds. Of course, this means the animal can leave behind hypercars like the McLaren P1.

Note that while a factory condition McLaren 720S had previously delivered a similar feat, that example used tire warmers, whereas the unit we had here didn't. Nevertheless, this Macca had left its factory tires behind for a set of Toyo Proxes R888R, but these are still street-legal.

A Vbox had been strapped to the car, with the clip involving the full data, which means you'll get to enjoy a set of astounding numbers. For instance, the thing managed to play the 0 to 60 mph game in 2.39 seconds.

Of course, as the vlogger who owns the car explains, things won't stop here. For instance, note that the driver attempts to pull a burnout before the run, but he obviously didn't manage to heat up the tires too much.

Well, as you'll get to notice in the final part of the video, there's already a McLaren 720S out there that has been gifted with some sort of line lock feature, which allows the driver to freeze the front axle, so they can properly spin the rear tires and bring them up to temperature for drag strip action.
