The Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG is a bit of a peculiar model in the current AMG lineup, and for more than just a couple of reasons.
First of all, it is the cheapest AMG model you can buy in the United States, which kind of sounds like the bargain of the century in terms of performance vehicles.
Second of all, it has precisely half the cylinders than the next more powerful AMG model you can buy in the United States, which for some Yanks may be a bit of a downer.
Last, but certainly not least – and especially despite all of the above – it offers a more than reasonable amount of performance that can put to shame quite a lot of V8-powered sports cars from the land of the free.
We are talking about 360 (355 bhp) and 450 Nm (332 lb ft) of torque squeezed out of a two-liter four-cylinder, which are sent to all four wheels via seven-speed double-clutch transmission.
How does that translate into performance? Well, judging from the following drag strip video, pretty damn awesome.
The stock CLA 45 AMG bellow did the 1/8 mile in just a little over eight seconds at 86 mph, which in quarter mile times would mean just under 13 seconds. Not bad. Not bad all.
