Stock BMW M3 Runs Stunning 11.66-Second Quarter Mile

The current M3 just doesn’t cease to amaze us. BMW did say that the new model will be bringing a drastic improvement over its predecessor but nobody expected results as impressive as this.

According to BMW, the F80 M3 will do 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 4.1 seconds using the 7-speed DCT gearbox while with the manual, the same benchmark speed will be achieved in 4.3 seconds.

For an all-wheel drive car with similar amounts of power that wouldn’t be such an impressive feat but since the M3 is rear-wheel drive, it’s a whole different story.

The engine, on the other hand, is as powerful as they get. BMW claims that it makes only 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) at the crank but independent tests showed that this kind of power or even more actually reaches the wheels. That means we get around 465 HP and near 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) at the crank.

Is it enough to be honorable on the drag strip?

Certainly BMW didn’t create the M3 to be used on a drag strip but that doesn’t mean that your car will embarrass you. As you’re about to see, the sedan can hold its own in such scenarios and not only that it’s close to putting to shame proper sport cars with only two seats for example.

In the video below you’ll see an Austin Yellow M3 posting an 11.66-second quarter-mile run, just shy of the numbers posted by a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at 11.40. Considering that the Chevy is a 2-seater specially prepped for such races and the Bimmer is just a sedan that can also seat 4 people comfortably, we think this is damn impressive.

Sure, the original post says that the car is using 103 Octane gas but we’re reluctant to say that the fuel made a huge difference. From your own experience, how much of a difference does better fuel make?
