The 2016 Camaro has been out in the wild for three months now and owners, as well as aftermarket developers, have been on a speed frenzy. And their efforts have not been without results.
The latest sign of that comes from a 2016 Camaro SS, a bone stock car that managed to enter the 11s quarter mile arena.
So far, the sixth-gen Camaro SS was believed to be good for 12.3-second passes at 116 mph, at least in 8-speed auto trim.
Well, a Camaro6 forum member managed to pull not one, but two high 11-second runs... on Valentine's Day.
We're dealing with a 1SS model running on the standard Goodyear tires, whose abilities were put to the test on the State Capitol Raceway in Port Allen, LA.
The Chevy, which was two weeks old at the time, had 430 miles on its odo. So yes, this was a bit of a brutal break-in procedure. Oh well, this seems to be the trend these days, so we'll move on to the rest of the details.
The best pass saw the muscle car completing the 1,320-foot sprint in 11.95 seconds at 118.04 mph, while this was backed by an 11.97s pass on the same day. In fact, you can see the full date in the image below.
Speaking of which, we have to explain the 2016 Camaro shown above is not the car that pulled these moves (the owner wouldn't show his ride, only giving us the drag strip numbers).
To put this into perspective, we'll remind you a stock Dodge Challenger Hellcat will do the same job in 11.2 seconds. As for the comparison involving the S550 Mustang, obviously in Shelby GT350 trim, this pony has fallen behind, albeit not by much.
Then again, the Camaro had received all three major power adders (we're talking about twin-turbos, supercharger and nitrous) withing two months of the first deliveries, so, stock runs aside, we're not expecting the Mustang to catch up when it comes to 1/4-mile times posted by modded rides.
