Stirling Moss: "Rossi Would Not Enjoy F1!"

Sir Stirling Moss would want nothing more than to see showman Valentino Rossi in the Formula One paddock in the future, but admitted the Great Circle is no place for the Italian champion to spend the rest of his racing years in.

Amid rumors that the Yamaha rider is considering a switch to F1 starting 2011 – he even admitted several talks with Ferrari to do a one-off this year – the legendary British driver advises Rossi not to do it. And it's not because he thinks the Italian won't succeed in the sport, but because the serious atmosphere in Formula One would certainly not be as enjoyable as in the MotoGP.

I'm certain Rossi could succeed in F1 if he wanted. If you are good at one motorsport you will be good at the other, and Rossi has that much talent and understanding of speed I'm certain he could make it in F1 - even at the age of 32 when he retires - but personally I would not advise it,” Moss was quoted as saying to Visordown.

I think he is too good for F1; he would revolutionise the paddock by bringing in a sense of humour. If he seriously wanted to race F1 I'm sure his desire and dedication would see him succeed, but I don't think he should do it - it would be a backwards step. The atmosphere in the F1 paddock is different to the motorcycle one, not as much fun and much more serious - and I don't think he would enjoy it,” added the British legend.

Moss' comments come only a few months away from Bernie Ecclestone's urging the FIA and the Formula One teams to bring back the show in Formula One. Apart from getting closer to the usual F1 fan, Ecclestone also admitted F1 needs more showmen and eccentric celebrations to delight the eyes of its viewers.
