Apparently, this opinion is shared by the U.S. tuner Stillen, who has developed a supercharger kit that brings the engine to 438 hp (515 flywheel hp, as measured on the dyno) and 343 lb-ft of torque.
The system uses a Vortech V-3 supercharger that uses a dedicated lubrication system and a “quiet V-belt design”. The engine now uses a cast aluminum intake manifold, that works with an air-to-water intercooler system. Its air intake features polished aluminum bespoke pipes and K&N filters.
The kit also features additional cooling for the engine’s oiling system, transmission and power steering via a set of bolt-on coolers that maintain the engine’s optimal temperature regardless of the driving conditions. The fuel injection system has received a high performance pump and a set of 600cc injectors.
Stillen, owned by former Nissan race driver Steve Miller, promises that the engine mutations will not affect its everyday-use capabilities.
“The system was tested, both for street drivability and reliability under normal traffic and freeway conditions, as well as being put through its paces at El Toro Air Base, 140+ mph runs, hard driving on tight courses with excessive revving and redlining, and extensive monitoring of all pertinent air and fluid temperatures, such as air temps before and after the intercooler,” stated the press release.
