Steven Soderbergh Returns To Film Making With NASCAR Heist Movie

NASCAR made an interesting announcement yesterday - they signed a partnership to make a movie at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Unfortunately for car fanatics, the movie is not necessarily about racing or a particular driver. Instead, it will be a fictitious “heist movie,” which will take place at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Since NASCAR, the company that organizes the series of the same name, signed up on this, we think there will be cars and a bit of racing in this production, as NASCAR has Zane Stoddard as executive producer on behalf of the corporation.

The movie will star Channing Tatum, who will act alongside Katherine Heigl. The cast includes names like Daniel Craig, Riley Keough, Adam Driver, and Seth MacFarlane.

According to NASCAR’s press release, the feature film will be named "Logan Lucky."

The new motion picture is not Tatum’s first cinematographic link with NASCAR, as he and fellow 22 Jump Street co-star Jonah Hill played grand marshals for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pocono 400 in 2014.

The coolest part about this movie? It is directed by Academy Award Winning director Steven Soderbergh, and it will mark his return to feature films after three years since he announced his retirement. Mr. Soderbergh’s most recent work was in the role of executive producer for TV Series like “The Girlfriend Experience,” “The Knick,” and “Red Oaks.”

Soderbergh is the director of the popular Ocean’s Eleven series of heist movies, so he knows how to throw the public into the atmosphere. The director has previously worked with the star, Channing Tatum, in productions like the “Magic Mike” series, as well as “Haywire,” and “Side Effects.”

The actress Riley Keough is the star of “The Girlfriend Experience,” a TV series where Soderbergh is an executive producer, and that’s based on the homonymous motion picture directed by the same man. Unfortunately, the former did not go so well with audiences, while some critics appreciated the leading actress’s portrayal of a New York call girl.

Pre-production filming of "Logan Lucky" will begin this weekend at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coca-Cola 600, scheduled on May 29, 2016. It airs live on FOX at six p.m. ET, if you want to watch the race. The movie “Logan Lucky” is scheduled to be in theaters in Fall 2017.

In over fourteen years, he got behind the wheel of several hundred vehicles and in the offices of the most important car publications in his homeland.
