Steve McQueen’s Siata 208S Up for Grabs on eBay

A car formerly owned by “The King of Cool” himself is currently for sale on eBay. In fact, the car in question, purchased for the first time by Steve McQueen is a 1953 Siata 208S, one of only 35 ever created. Priced at $5,300 as new, it's either buy it now at $1,295,000 or best offer on eBay, an amount which can only be explained by McQueen’s fame.

The 208S came from the SIATA (Societa Italiana Auto Trasformazioni Accessori) company and, when it was purchased by McQueen, it was in its original gunmetal grey with yellow California plates MTY 906. McQueen then sold the car to Bruce Sand, who now remembers the famous actor had removed the front nose badge, put a Ferrari shield on it, and called it his “little Ferrari”.

“The car is currently in outstanding cosmetic condition. The paintwork was completed to the highest standards and has been carefully looked after so that it remains exceptional. The metal trim and wheels are excellent, and the wheels wear the correct Michelin X tires. The glass and lamps are also excellent, and a pair of auxiliary driving lamps has been fitted behind the grille,” the seller adverts.

With just 4,763 miles on the odometer, the example listed on eBay is now finished in Red with Tan interior and Red Piping. It is powered by a two litre 8V engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission.

The buyer will also receive four impossible to find original manuals: McAfee original operating instructions, 8V engine manual (original and with Ferrari stampings from their archives), 8V engine parts book (original), and an 8V specifications listing.

“This Siata 208/S is an ideal entry into any world-class driving event such as the Mille Miglia,”
concludes the seller.
