One of the bikes owned and used by the famous Steve McQueen will go under the hammer on April 28, but this time we're looking at an amazing piece of motorcycle history an 1914 Indian Model F, modified for board-track racing.
This Indian Model F has been restored by the brand specialist Stephen Wright and sports a 500cc single-cylinder engine capable to deliver 4 HP. The bike sports the loop-type Indian frame but has received geometry modifications for the new purpose: the rake has been reduced, therefore the wheelbase got shorter, for better high-speed stability.
Bohnams say the clutch is not working so we can't tell you whether you could ride this Indian out of the auction room. However, if you plan to buy and ride this machine, you should remember it has no ABS, since it has no... erm... brakes. At all.
The estimated price of the Steve McQueen Indian Model F is £22,000 – 28,000 (€26,000 – 33,000 or US$ 34,000 – 43,000).
