Steve Dinan Tells All about His Company and Mad BMW M5 S1

You know all those pesky bits you didn’t like about the M5? All that stuff everyone complained about like the weight and how you feel it while cornering? It’s all nearly gone if you know where to invest your resources, like in the package Dinan offers.

Steve Dinan has been working on BMWs for the better part of the last 50 years. As you might’ve guessed (unless you really aren’t familiar with BMW tuning in the US), he learned a thing or two along the road and his company is able to offer one of the best packages for the current M5 on the market.

Their upgraded product is called S1 and you won’t believe its stats. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 was upgraded to make 675 HP and 644 lb-ft (873 Nm) of torque instead of 560 HP and 501 lb-ft (680 Nm) the car makes in its standard guise.

That’s for the ‘regular’ M5. However, BMW also offers the Competition Package model that comes with more power but the same amount of torque, as well as a couple of extra tricks to make the car more controllable.

Dinan took care of things for this model as well, though. Their Competition Package S1 has 690 HP and 668 lb-ft (905 Nm) of torque instead of 575 HP and 501 lb-ft (680 Nm) on the ZCP M5.

That’s simply madness but the upgrades to take their toll on other parts of the car. The new ECU map will change the characteristics of the engine and will need extra air and a bigger exhaust to cope with the new parameters. Therefore, Dinan will also install these new parts for you. The grand total including parts and labour rises to $16,000 on top of what you have to pay for the initial car.

Yes, it does seem like a lot but you also get a lot in return. For example, you won’t ever have to worry that BMW will void your warranty for any reason because Dinan will cover this aspect for the remainder of your manufacturer’s warranty. That’s usually up to 4 years and 50,000 miles (80,000 km).

You can’t possibly believe us when we tell you that for that sort of money you get sportscar abilities in a mid-size sedan. But if our word isn’t enough, maybe you’ll believe Steve when he’s explaining it all to you in front of the camera. Check it out!
