Admittedly, there are better ways to meet your idol than hitting them with your car. On the bright side, one Steve Carell fan who did it was lucky that he didn’t mind it all that much.
As per his own admission, the actor likes to bike a lot. In a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres, he says he has a city bike and lycra suit, and that he likes to go out for a ride whenever he has the time. A couple of weeks ago, he had the misfortune to be hit by a car – but this was no regular encounter of the kind between a vehicle and a bicycle.

“I actually got hit by a car a couple weeks ago,” Carell tells the talk show host, as the video below will confirm. “I was riding, pretty fast road. I made a turn, and I didn’t see the car behind me, and they hit me from behind. So I went up over the handlebars.”

Carell recalls that everything kind of slowed down as he was being thrown into the air and that he actually told himself “I’m gonna tuck and roll,” which he did. He bounced right back up after hitting the ground and wasn’t hurt, but his bike had gotten stuck under the car. However, things took a turn for the strange when the driver came out to see if he was ok.

As it happened, it was a woman – and she was a huge fan. In a matter of seconds, the desperation of having hit a man with her car turned into happiness that said man was Steve Carell. This might be the text-book definition of “starstruck,” if you think about it.

“She was so excited that she hit me,” Carell recalls, unable to fight off laughter. “It was really kind of a fun experience, a fun fan encounter.”

To make sure no one ever hits Carell with their car when he’s out biking, Ellen gave him the perfect early Christmas present: a new helmet and high-vis vest equipped with dozens of blinking lights. And she may also be working on having a leather onsie custom-made for him.
